If you choose to buy VinFast VF 8 and VF 9 with the newly added CATL battery, users need to spend an additional 54.5-111 million VND depending on the car model and version.
According to VinFast's announcement, two electric SUV models, VF 8 and VF 9, will have versions using CATL batteries, in addition to variants using SDI batteries currently on the market. The CATL batteries of VF 8 and VF 9 were jointly developed by the Vietnamese car company and Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL).

VinFast said that the new battery version uses NMC technology with prismatic battery cells, providing higher energy density at the pack level thanks to optimal material selection and design. This battery version meets IP68 standard (SDI battery is IP67) and has good charging/discharging ability, even in low temperature environments.
Experts say that with technological improvements, the CATL battery version will have better durability than the SDI battery version. The storage capacity is also expected to be improved, thereby providing a longer operating range than the SDI battery version. However, the exact parameters have not been announced by VinFast.
A source from Dan Tri said that the battery on the CATL version has about 30% higher capacity than the SDI battery, helping to increase the distance traveled on a single charge by about 35-40% (measured according to the same standards). The battery charging time will also take about 30% longer (equivalent to about 10 minutes with fast charging).
Thus, both versions of VF 8 and VF 9 use CATL batteries, promising a range of over 500km after a single charge, possibly approaching 600km.
Currently, VF 8 has a range of about 400-420km on a single charge, while VF 9 has a range of 423-438km. Using super fast charging, the car takes about 26 minutes to charge the battery from 10% to 70%.
CATL is known as the world leader in new energy technology innovation, providing batteries for many famous car manufacturers such as GM, Volkswagen, BMW and Tesla.
