Having a design that reduces energy consumption is important, plus the vehicle weight must be low. A large battery pack can help reduce carbon emissions when the vehicle is operating, but it does not necessarily make the vehicle more environmentally friendly.
In this year's list, the Lexus RZ 300e model ranked 2nd, with 67 points and an estimated fuel cost of 651 USD/year. The MINI Cooper SE model ranked 3rd, also with 67 points, but fuel costs are 747 USD/year. The Nissan Leaf and Toyota bZ4X models ranked 4th and 5th, respectively.
Toyota dominates the car list
In addition to the ranking of the "greenest" cars, the list of least environmentally friendly cars also received attention, showing that not all pure electric cars have high scores.
Accordingly, for the first time, a pure electric car model entered the list of least environmentally friendly cars; that's the GMC Hummer EV, with scores even lower than the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 supercar.
In the list of 12 car models with the highest "green" scores, half are Toyota (including Lexus), Hyundai has 3 products, and Mini, Nissan and Kia each have 1 representative.
