Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be incredibly thin

A new rumor says the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be as thin as a Galaxy S24 when folded.

According to BGR, Samsung has just launched the Galaxy Z Fold 6 with a thinner and lighter design, but it seems that the company is still not satisfied. According to a source from The Korea Economic Daily, Samsung's mobile division director TM Roh has set a goal for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to be as thin as the Galaxy S24 (7.7mm) when folded.

The successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to be a breakthrough in thinness.

The successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to be a breakthrough in thinness.

This is a huge ambition that no manufacturer has ever achieved. Even the Honor Magic V3, the thinnest foldable phone to date, is only 9.2mm thin when folded. However, this goal may affect the durability of the device. When opened, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be less than 5mm thick, posing many technical and durability challenges.

Samsung is reportedly planning to launch a slimmer Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim later this year, which will be 10mm thick when folded. This is said to be a cheaper version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Samsung is also said to be working on thinner foldable phones with larger screens in the coming years. However, making a thin foldable phone is not just about screen technology and hinges. It also requires thinner batteries and more efficient processors to ensure battery life and performance.

Meanwhile, Apple is also said to be developing the iPhone 17 Slim with an ultra-thin design. This could pave the way for the launch of a foldable iPhone in the future.
