Samsung is reportedly in the process of developing a new artificial intelligence (AI) smartphone that could be significantly different from its current products.
The development was revealed by TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Experience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics, in an interview with the Australian Financial Review. According to Roh, Samsung is investing heavily in research and development of these AI smartphones, although it is not yet clear whether they will form a new product line or replace current high-end models.

Roh also stressed that a significant portion of Samsung MX’s R&D efforts are dedicated to creating these new AI-powered devices. He didn’t elaborate on what the differences might include, though. It’s likely to involve new design elements, screen sizes, advanced sensors, or the addition of dedicated neural processing units (NPUs).
Earlier this month, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 globally. Along with hardware upgrades and a new hinge mechanism, they also feature new AI features in the Galaxy AI software suite. For example, the Galaxy Z Fold6 includes a “Sketch to Image” feature that lets you use the S Pen to turn rough sketches into realistic works of art with the help of AI. Additionally, both devices now have “Note Assist” that can record, transcribe, and provide summaries.

The clamshell Galaxy Z Flip6 also features a new ProVisual Engine for the camera, which relies on AI to detect objects, analyze lighting conditions, and isolate facial features to enhance image quality. AI capabilities are also used to optimize images even at 10x zoom to improve the overall quality of captured subjects.
While Samsung has yet to reveal details about its upcoming AI smartphone, the emphasis on AI integration in its recent devices shows that the company is strongly focused on leveraging AI to enhance user experience.
The question remains whether these new AI smartphones from Samsung will bring groundbreaking features or mark a significant change in the design and functions of Samsung smartphones .
On June 7, Samsung confirmed that it will bring Galaxy AI to the next generation of foldable smartphones , specifically the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. These smartphones will be officially launched in early July.
