Panasonic launches a camera that supports extremely "awesome" livestreaming

The new Panasonic LUMIX S5II camera has the right configuration for professional content creators.

Right at the Consumer Electronics Show – CES 2023, Panasonic launched 2 more LUMIS S camera series. They are the first 2 mirrorless cameras to use Phase Detection Autofocus.

The pair of cameras uses a newly developed 24.2-megapixel 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor and a new imaging engine, phase-detection autofocus (PDAF), which significantly improves subject tracking capabilities.

Once the new LUMIX S5II and S5IIX cameras lock onto a subject, PDAF will continue to track that moving subject, even in low light conditions. It also continuously autofocuses while zooming and provides options to reduce the size of the autofocus area.

Image stabilization

Both cameras feature a powerful image stabilization system for a wide range of shooting situations and conditions. Panasonic has combined the Body IS (five-axis) in the LUMIX S5II and S5IIX and the two-axis Optical Image Stabilizer from the LUMIX S Series lenses to create a 5-axis Dual IS 2 system.

The 5-axis Dual IS 2 system maximizes correction capabilities, allowing for shutter speeds up to 6.5 stops slower. It also works for stills and video, including 4K resolution.

Active image stabilization has also been added for more stable video recording. This feature can optimize horizontal, vertical, and rotational correction ratios by detecting camera shake.

As a result, the image stabilizer can handle significantly more camera shake at approximately 200% of the performance of a conventional image stabilizer. Panasonic says the camera can take advantage of handheld video recording or fixed-frame photography.

Other new features of the Panasonic LUMIX S5II camera series

The new imaging engine offers unlimited 4:2:0 10-bit 6K (3:2) / 5.9K (16:9) and 4:2:2 10-bit C4K/4K recording. The camera offers high frame rates in C4K/4K (48p), Full HD (120p), Slow & Quick Motion C4K/4K(1-60fps)/ FHD(1-180fps).

Photographers can capture high dynamic range and wide color using each camera's 14+ stop V-Log/V-Gamut capture feature. Additionally, the real-time LUT function enables color grading on compatible videos and photos in-camera by applying a LUT (.VLT/.cube) saved to the SD memory card.

Users can perform color grading immediately, without post-processing, and quickly share images on social networks. Therefore, this will be a great camera for those who often livestream.
