What members will the iPhone 17 series have?

Although the iPhone 17 series is still more than a year away from being launched, rumors about them are appearing more and more densely.

The iPhone 16 series launch is only about a month away, but rumors about the iPhone 17 Series have been circulating for about a year now.

Here are the rumors about the iPhone 17 "family" - to be introduced in September 2025 according to a summary from the Apple Insider website.

iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim or iPhone 17 Air.

In recent years, Apple has introduced four versions in an iPhone generation, including: standard iPhone, iPhone Plus, iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max.

However, according to rumors in July, with the 2025 iPhone lineup, Apple may eliminate the iPhone 17 Plus version. It will be replaced by an ultra-thin iPhone - the iPhone Slim.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, this change is because the iPhone Plus accounts for less than 10% of sales in the years.

In other words, the iPhone 17 lineup will include: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Slim, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

In August, another source suggested that the strange iPhone would be called the iPhone Air, a name that makes sense since it’s already been used in the iPad and MacBook product lines.

Currently, the thinnest iPhone is the iPhone SE with a thickness of 0.29 inches, the thinnest iPad is the iPad Pro M4 with a thickness of 0.20 inches.

To help the iPhone Slim be durable and resistant to bending, "Apple House" can use a "titanium aluminum alloy frame".

For the iPhone 17 generation, the chip used will be the A19 and A19 Pro.

In 2022, TSMC reportedly plans to mass produce 2-nanometer chip designs in 2025, coinciding with the launch of the A19 chip.

By December 2023, reports say, the iPhone 17 Pro will be the first device to use the technology.

The move to a smaller process will save space, increase energy efficiency, and reduce heat generation.

However, another source said in July that the process would not be ready until late 2025.

In May, analyst Jeff Pu said that Apple will increase the memory of the iPhone 17 Pro models.

The iPhone 15 series uses 8GB of RAM, which is expected to remain the same for the iPhone 16. However, the iPhone 17 Pro will have up to 12GB of RAM. The extra memory will help improve multitasking and allow for more powerful apps.

Motherboard and Wi-Fi

The iPhone 17 could benefit from a new motherboard, using advanced technology, making the device lighter.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo's October 2023 prediction, Apple plans to use Copper-clad Plastic for its motherboards. In theory, this structure makes the motherboard thinner, making drilling easier due to the lack of glass fibers. This will also reduce costs and time for Apple's production lines, improving everything overall for the company's supply chain.

On the other hand, the Cupertino company has yet to produce its own Wi-Fi chip to include in the iPhone 17 generation.

iPhone 17 screen

Currently, the iPhone screen only has two size versions: 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches. However, this size may change in the iPhone 17 series.

According to Mr. Kuo, the iPhone 17 Slim will have a screen size between the standard iPhone and the iPhone Plus, expected to be 6.6 inches and have a resolution of 2,740 x 1,260 pixels.

Additionally, the iPhone 17's display will be anti-reflective and even more scratch-resistant. A source said in March that Corning was working on a tougher glass that could "defeat" the Ceramic Shield display.

In April, another DSCC report claimed that the always-on display technology from the iPhone Pro models would appear on the standard iPhone models next year. However, the chances of this happening are quite low.

Camera of iPhone 17 series

First, reports from July said that Apple would allow aperture adjustment for the camera on at least one iPhone 17 model. Currently, Apple has only included the tetraprism periscope lens on the most expensive iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The ability to adjust aperture allows photographers to be more creative with background blur effects, allowing for in-camera focusing for video recording.

For the front camera, many reports claim that Apple will use a 24-megapixel sensor - double the 12-megapixel resolution on the iPhone 15's telephoto camera.

A report from August even claimed Apple would switch from a five-element plastic lens to a more premium six-element version.

On the other hand, Mr. Kuo suggests that the iPhone 17 Slim version will only have a single rear camera. This is quite reasonable because the thin body will make it more difficult to integrate internal components and some things will have to change.
