Xiaomi 15 Pro and 15 Ultra will be comprehensively upgraded in terms of camera, screen and may be equipped with new high-capacity battery technology.
If you're looking for a phone with more than 5x optical zoom, you might have an ideal option in early 2025, which is the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. Right after the information announced a few weeks ago, claiming that the 5x telephoto lens of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra would be equipped on the Xiaomi 15 Pro, many speculated that Xiaomi would do something new with the telephoto camera of the 15 Ultra model.
According to information from leaker @Digital Chat Station's post, Xiaomi may not be planning to produce a 230mm equivalent telephoto lens for the Xiaomi 15 Ultra's Leica camera, but instead a lens with a focal length equivalent to about 180mm, corresponding to a zoom capability of about 7x to 8x.
This is possible thanks to a new Sony sensor that measures around 1/2.51 inches, which is roughly the same size as the IMX858 currently found on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Combined with Xiaomi's AI Zoom 2.0, this will make the Xiaomi 15 Ultra the smartphone with the widest zoom camera in 2025, according to GSMChina's Kartikey Singh.
According to Singh posted on social network X (formerly Twitter), the screen size of Xiaomi 15 is 6.36 inches, the same as Xiaomi 14, but the battery will increase from 4,610 mAh to 5,200 mAh and the possibility of a 6,000 mAh battery will be developed for Xiaomi 15 Ultra.
According to a Weibo post by leaker @Digital Chat Station, not only the 15 Ultra, the Xiaomi 15 Pro model may also be equipped with a 6000mAh silicon battery. Although the post does not specify the exact name of the specific phone model, the timing and previous leaks suggest that it is likely the Xiaomi 15 Pro.
The information also reveals that a larger silicon battery, with a capacity of 6,200mAh, is currently under development, possibly for the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, according to Gizmochina.
According to Xiaomi's usual launch schedule, the 15 Ultra is expected to launch in February 2025. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 15 Pro will launch earlier, around October or November, after Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip.
Leaks so far have revealed that the Xiaomi 15 Pro will feature a 50-megapixel primary sensor with a variable aperture of f/1.4 to f/2.5, accompanied by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.
The front will have a centered punch-hole display with 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The device is equipped with security features with an in-display fingerprint sensor for a seamless unlocking experience.
In terms of design, the device will have a metal frame in the middle, there may be a special version made of higher-end titanium. Similarly, the device is 8.5mm thick and weighs around 220 grams.
Standard features like full-function NFC, infrared remote control, dual speakers, and IP68 dust and water resistance are also expected.
