Apple may soon put anti-peeping screens on devices

Rain Technology, a display innovation company based in Colorado (USA), recently announced that it is ready to revolutionize AR glasses.

The company is now offering its patented switchable privacy display to manufacturers, meaning a commercial product could soon hit the market.

What do these screens do? Simple: users can toggle them between private and public modes, with the former making the screen only visible from a certain angle.

Traditionally, this has only been possible through film layers applied to the screen, a solution that isn’t considered permanent.

Rain Technology is in talks with major companies like Apple , Google, and Meta, meaning that iPads or iPhones or Pixels could get this technology in the near future.

Consumers and business customers alike would benefit greatly from such displays.

Called “Laptop Switchable Privacy,” the technology is aimed at popular laptop manufacturers like De

ll, HP, Lenovo, and Apple, whose screens can be switched to privacy mode in less than a millisecond (ms) via buttons, software, hardware, or even eye tracking.

Laptop models are in dire need of such technology as well.

What’s really cool is that when these displays are in private mode, users can choose what others around them see.

The display can appear black, metallic, or even show a logo to outside viewers.

Rain Technology claims that its technology can maintain the same clarity and brightness for the primary viewer in both private and public modes.

The switchable security technology is currently compatible with LCD displays, with the company promising support for other types of displays, such as OLED, soon.

Rain Technology also recently won the “SalesTech Innovation” award at the MarTech Breakthrough Awards, a market watchdog.

Rain Technology CEO Robert Ramsey believes the display technology will provide customers with “the highest level of device data security on the market.”

It is not yet clear which companies will be interested in bringing the new display to market.
