Starting with the camera capabilities, which is the focus of this phone.

The four cameras on the back are made in collaboration with Leica and are housed under a unified glass dome that Xiaomi calls the Leica Vario-Summicron 1:1.8-3.0/12-120 ASPH lens.

The main camera uses a 50MP 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor and a 23mm optically stabilized lens with a two-step physical aperture that allows for f/1.9 for uniform depth of field and f/4.0 for sharper images.

The sensor contains 1.6µm pixels, which can combine 4 pixels into 1 to create 12.5MP images with large individual pixels of 3.2µm.

The remaining three cameras all use the new Sony IMX858 sensor with a resolution of 50 MP with a size of 1 / 2.51 inches, quite impressive.

They include a 3.2x mid-range camera with a 75mm f / 1.8 OIS lens, a 5x 120mm camera with a brighter f / 3.0 lens, and a 12mm f / 1.8 ultra-wide camera with 5cm macro focusing.

Using in-sensor zoom technology, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra also offers 2x 46mm and 10x 240mm mode options.

For the front camera, the product comes with a 32 MP f/2.0 sensor with fixed focal length and supports 4-pixel binning for 8 MP photos.

The innovation doesn’t end on the physical side as Xiaomi and Leica have given the Xiaomi 13 Ultra some impressive features.

First of all, like other Leica-branded Xiaomi cameras, there are two camera color science modes – Leica Vibrant and Leica Authentic. There’s also a new 50MP UltraRAW mode for the main camera that shoots 14-bit DNG images with built-in multi-frame sharpening, noise reduction, and dynamic range adjustment for further fine-tuning. Adobe will provide custom camera profiles for Lightroom.

Users are also equipped with a feature designed specifically for street photographers called Fast Shot mode that allows to shorten the focusing time when taking photos by setting a predetermined focusing distance. Fast Shot will then take the photo in just 0.8 seconds.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra features a camera-inspired design with a circular lenticular camera module, a metal frame, and a leather-wrapped back (on the Black and Green models). Specifically, the antibacterial nano-technology silicone leather is said by Xiaomi to have a 99% bacterial inhibition rate. The top of the rear panel is slightly raised to highlight the camera module.

On the front, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra has a 6.73-inch 3200 x 1440 pixel AMOLED display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to 240Hz touch sampling rate. Xiaomi says the panel can reach a brightness of up to 2600 nits.

Inside, the phone comes with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Users can choose from 12/256GB, 16/512GB and 16GB/1TB variant options, with UFS 4.0 internal storage.

The Snapdragon chip is cooled by Xiaomi's self-developed Loo LiquidCool technology, which uses an aerospace-grade toroidal cooling system and vapor chamber. It has a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 90W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Battery life and charging are monitored by Xiaomi's custom Surge P2 and Surge G1 chips.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra will be available in Black, Olive Green, and White, and will go on sale in China starting April 21st, starting at around VND20.5 million ($860) for the 12/256GB model and going all the way up to VND25 million ($1,100) for the 16GB/1TB model. Xiaomi says the phone will be coming to more international markets in the coming months.
