An upgrade to the standard iPad model is likely to be launched by Apple next year with some notable features.
Apple didn't update its standard iPad this year, nor last year, leaving it with the four-year-old A14 chip.
A real upgrade for the iPad could be coming next spring, according to 9to5Mac.

Below are some of the features that Apple will bring to users in this new generation iPad version:
Artificial intelligence and connectivity upgrades
The next-generation standard iPad — the iPad 11 — will likely support
Apple's artificial intelligence technology, called Apple Intelligence.
It's unclear which processor it will use, but it's likely to be the A18, as the first-generation 3nm manufacturing process is quite expensive.
Apple only uses the A17 Pro chip on the new iPad mini, thanks to the “filtered” chip source from the iPhone 15 Pro production process.
With the A18 chip, users will have the opportunity to experience AI features such as notification summaries, Image Playground image editing tools,

Genmoji, the new Siri virtual assistant and ChatGPT.
Additionally, the iPad 11 is expected to support newer connectivity standards, including
Wi-Fi 6E (or Wi-Fi 7) and Bluetooth 5.3, providing a smoother connectivity experience than Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 on the current low-cost iPad model.
Keyboard design and Apple Pencil Pro support
Apple is also working on a cheaper Magic Keyboard for the iPad, which the iPad 11 will likely support.
The new keyboard design will be more traditional, rather than the folio style of the current iPad 10.
It's possible that the iPad 11 will support the Apple Pencil Pro, although there's no specific information on that yet.
Apple may adjust the magnet placement to support the Apple Pencil Pro, but that may depend on manufacturing costs.
Expected release date
According to Bloomberg expert Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to launch the new iPad 11 in the spring of next year, at the same time as the iPhone SE, iPad Air and some other products.
The iPad will have a design that is almost identical to the current version from 2022, but will be upgraded in processing speed.
If nothing changes, Apple's cheapest iPad will have a lifespan of 2.5 years when it gets this upgrade.
