Realme is developing a folding phone with a design that improves performance

Realme is making a comeback with foldable phones, after pausing development.

A new patent reveals a book-style folding design and unique heat dissipation technology.

Realme is getting closer to entering the foldable phone market, despite previously pausing development efforts.

Early last year, former Realme India head Madhav Sheth made headlines when he posted a teaser on social

media, asking users about their preference between the “Realme Flip” and the “Realme Fold.”

However, the project was put on hold after Realme's chief marketing officer,

Francis Wong, announced that the company decided to pause the launch of the foldable phone due to concerns about the durability of the mechanism.

Recently, a new patent discovered on the China National Intellectual Property

Administration website suggests that Realme may have continued research on this idea.

The design diagram in the patent shows a book-style folding design, as opposed to the narrower format in previous patents.

The design is said to include a magnetic hinge for seamless folding and opening,

along with a unique heat dissipation mechanism that should improve performance during extended use.

While the patent offers a glimpse into Realme's approach, there's no official word yet on a launch timeline or specifications, like the chipset or display technology.

However, previous statements from Realme executives suggest that the brand is focused on addressing wear and tear concerns associated with foldable devices.

It’s unclear at this point how Realme will position its foldable phone in this competitive segment

, but more updates are likely to come in the future as the brand continues to innovate and expand its product line.

The new patent filing suggests that the decision to pause development earlier

may have been a strategic move to refine the design before launching the final product.
