If you're using an Android phone, pay attention to this important warning about malicious apps.
There are 15 malicious apps that users should delete immediately if they have them installed on their devices. According to a study from McAfee, global threats have tricked over 8 million users into installing these apps, which can lead to serious financial losses.
Users are warned about SpyLoan apps.
Dubbed SpyLoan, the apps operate as predatory lending apps targeting Android users around the world. They use social engineering to trick users into revealing personal and sensitive information, and request unnecessary access to their devices. Despite violating policies, many of these apps remain on Google Play, making them appear trustworthy.
SpyLoan often lures victims by promising quick loans at low interest rates. The scammers create a sense of urgency, leaving users with little time to think before acting.
These malicious apps have the ability to control and collect sensitive data from users’ phones without their knowledge. While previously these apps were often installed from unofficial sources, the current 15 apps come from the official Google Play store.
List of newly discovered malicious applications.
Although Google has removed some of the apps on this list, users are advised to still check for themselves. If you find yourself installing any of these apps, delete them immediately to avoid falling into a debt spiral.
To protect your device, Google recommends turning on Play Protect, which scans and warns you about potentially harmful apps. You should also look out for warning signs like: virus or infected device alerts; antivirus software not working; slow device performance; sudden drops in storage space; or device stopping working properly.
If you experience these symptoms, make sure Play Protect is turned on and check for security updates for your device.
