The first company to introduce a foldable smartphone from China has been declared bankrupt, an unfortunate ending.
While Samsung , Motorola, Google, OnePlus, OPPO, and HONOR are currently dominating the foldable smartphone market,
none of them were first in the space. In fact, little-known Chinese company Royole Technologies was the first to launch a foldable
smartphone in the world in 2018. However, that head start wasn’t enough to keep the company in business.

A recent report from Digitimes revealed that Royole Technologies has been declared bankrupt after an investigation into its assets and liabilities.
A Shenzhen court has just said that the company is unable to pay off its debts and that its current assets are not enough to cover its debts.
Founded in 2012, Royole Technologies has invested heavily in foldable display technology.
Their foldable smartphone, the Royole FlexPai, features a 7.8-inch AMOLED display with a 1440p resolution and a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Unlike other foldable smartphones, the FlexPai has a folding display on the outside with a thick bezel that houses the front camera and sensors.

In addition to launching the first foldable smartphone, Royole is credited with many other innovative technological
products, including the world’s thinnest full-color flexible display, the first curved car dashboard based on flexible electronics, a
nd the first smart writing tablet using flexible sensors. In 2019, the company also par
tnered with Louis Vuitton to introduce a new line of handbags with integrated flexible displays.
Despite its remarkable achievements, Royole Technologies has been unable to overcome its losses and is likely to liquidate its assets in the near future.
