The iPhone That's Causing Big Trouble for the iPhone 16 and High-End Android Phones

LG Display has just launched a screen model that can stretch from 12 to 18 inches in size, opening up many creative applications in display technology.

Recently, LG Display - a leading company in the field of display technology in Korea, introduced the prototype of the world's first truly stretchable display.

This screen is 12 inches in size and can be expanded up to 18 inches without losing image quality, with a high resolution of 100 pixels/inch and full RGB color.

This isn’t the first time LG Display has experimented with stretchable display technology.

In 2022, the company showed off a prototype with a maximum stretchability of around 20%.

However, with the new technology, LG has managed to double the stretchability to 50%.

The company describes it as “the ultimate display technology,” allowing screens to not only bend or fold,

but also transform, twist, and stretch into various shapes, opening up many creative applications in diverse fields.

The development is part of a national project led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea, which has been underway since 2020.

LG Display led a consortium of 19 research institutes involved in the project.

The team applied new technologies, including a special silicon substrate material commonly used in contact lenses and a breakthrough display wiring method.

Durability was also a key factor in the design of this stretchable display prototype.

LG Display says the display can withstand repeated stretching up to 10,000 times.

Additionally, the display uses a micro-LED light source of just 40 micrometers, ensuring stable image quality even in harsh conditions.

At the launch event, LG Display demonstrated several potential applications of the display, including

a curved display for cars that can be controlled by gestures and a wearable display integrated into firefighters' uniforms to access real-time information.

With its unique stretchability, the display is also thin, light, and can adhere to curved surfaces like clothing or skin. LG hopes the technology will be widely applied in many industries, from fashion to wearables to the mobile sector.
