With the iPhone 16 series, these 6 safety features give users invaluable peace of mind.
When it comes to iPhones , they're often remembered for their standout features like cameras, fast performance, and large screens.
However, Apple's smartphones have developed robust security tools over the years.
Here are six safety features that give you real peace of mind with your iPhone 16.
1. Emergency SOS – with and without satellite
Emergency SOS on iPhone has been around for years, but the more recent innovation is satellite-based Emergency SOS connectivity.
This means that even if you don't have WiFi or cell service, you can still call for help from emergency services (in supported countries).

Apple has integrated a demo into iOS for iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and iPhone 16 Series so users can practice using this feature before needing it in a real-world situation.
2. Emergency support via satellite
In addition to calling emergency services, Apple has partnered with AAA and Verizon to provide Emergency Assistance when users don't have a connection.

This is another useful feature that users should learn about before needing to use it.
3. Satellite Message
Expanding on its Emergency SOS and Satellite Emergency Assistance features, Apple introduced Satellite Messages with iOS
18, allowing users to stay in touch with friends and family in the absence of WiFi or cellular service.
Shortly after its launch, the feature saved many lives during Hurricane Helene.
4. Collision Detection
This feature is automatically enabled on iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and iPhone 16
(and Apple Watch 8). Users can double-check that this feature is enabled by going to Settings > Emergency SOS > Crash Detection.

If a serious car accident is detected, “iPhone or Apple Watch will sound an alarm and display a warning.” If the user doesn’t respond wit
in 20 seconds, your device will automatically call emergency services. However, this feature requires a WiFi or cellular connection to work.
Since its launch, this feature has saved many lives.
5. Safety Check
Available on any iPhone running iOS 16 or later, Safety Check for iPhone lets users instantly revoke location access from others — including apps — and also guides users through a security review.
Users can find this feature in Settings > Privacy & Security > Safety Check.
6. Stolen Device Protection
In early 2024, the iPhone gained a new safety feature - Stolen Device Protection. This feature was introduced after an increase in iPhone thefts in public places like bars.
This feature has virtually no downside in user experience and still enhances security.
If you haven't turned this feature on or want to double-check, go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode > Stolen Device Protection.
