In the latest statement, Indonesia's Investment Minister requested to receive 1 billion USD from Apple to lift the iPhone 16 ban.
Due to failure to fulfill its promised commitments, Apple has been banned from selling all iPhone 16 models in Indonesia.

According to Reuters, Indonesia's Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani told Indonesian lawmakers that the country would raise its demands. The minister later said he hoped to see a $1 billion investment commitment from Apple within a week.
Mr. Rosan said:
“Anyone who benefits from sales has to invest here, create jobs here. What matters is how the global value chain moves here because once that value chain moves, the suppliers will follow.
After the iPhone 16 series ban in Indonesia, Apple offered to invest $10 million. Indonesia rejected it and then also rejected Apple's next offer of $100 million.
According to the Financial Times, "Apple House" sold about 2.9 million iPhones in Indonesia in 2023.

However, Indonesia is becoming increasingly important to Apple, although so far the company has not moved any manufacturing operations to the country as it has done with India and Vietnam. In April 2024, Tim Cook promised Indonesia that Apple would consider deploying manufacturing operations there.
The promise comes as Apple opens its fourth Developer Academy in the country.
