uawei became the first phone maker to release a tri-folding
smartphone last year when it launched the Huawei Mate XT.
Now, at CES 2025, Samsung has shown off two different versions of its tri-fold display. One looks similar

Samsung will introduce a tri-fold phone next year that will use a tri-fold display called the “Flex G,” according to Ross Young, founder and CEO of Display Supply Side Consultan
ts (DSCC). Essentially, it’s a Galaxy Z Fold with an extra side. Unlike the Flex S, the two outer sides of the Flex G fold inward to protect the 10-inch tablet display inside when folded.
Samsung is expected to release a phone based on the Flex G display as early as 2026. Samsung is also working on a display that expands vertically and one that expands horizon
tally. The vertical display is great for smartphones while the horizontal display is perfect for tablets. This is a technology that Samsung has been working on for years and may soon be ready for commercial deployment.
A YouTube video released by Samsung Display shows that the vertically expanding display will stretch the 5.1-inch display to a 6.7-inch FHD+ display. Another video
shows that the horizontal display will expand from an 8.1-inch display to a 12.4-inch display, also with FHD+ resolution.

At CES, Samsung also showed off a flexible and ultra-thin OLED display that could be used on a mobile product.
With CES in Las Vegas (USA), the tech world is quite excited about Samsung's ideas. The "Flex G" t
ri-fold screen will be on the market in 2026. It is highly likely that this screen will be used on a Galaxy smartphone with a vertically expanding screen.
