Apple just ended an era that no one cries about.

Apple has just announced a series of new iPad products, including the iPad Air equipped with the M3 chip and a low-cost version of the iPad.

While the budget iPad doesn't have many upgrades over its predecessor, one important change in its specs marks the end of an era for Apple: the 64GB storage tier has officially been dropped.

The iPad line has no longer had a 128GB internal storage option since the introduction of the iPad 11.

The new entry-level iPad will now start at 128GB, marking a shift in Apple's policy. Previously, the iPad 10 was the only model still available in 64GB, while the iPhone SE 3 was also the last Apple phone to offer this outdated storage option. Now, the newly released iPhone 16e and iPad 11 both start at 128GB, making the iPhone SE 3 and iPad 10 obsolete and no longer available in Apple's official stores.

The change isn’t limited to the iPad. Since October, all Mac models sold by Apple have come with at least 16GB of RAM, up from the previous minimum of 8GB. This shows that Apple is working to upgrade its specs to keep up with the growing demands of the digital age.

The iPhone also no longer has an option with 64 GB of internal memory.

Meanwhile, Android devices have led the way with impressive specs, including 16GB of RAM becoming standard on many phones. While Apple has yet to offer 16GB of RAM in the iPhone, the company could upgrade the RAM on the iPhone 17 Pro later this year to 12GB.

With the departure of the 64GB internal storage option, users can feel relieved that they no longer have to worry about running out of space on their new devices.
