How did users lose confidence in Samsung smartphones?

Samsung has long been known for its speedy software updates, often leading the way among Android manufacturers.

However, with the One UI 7 update, the company seems to have lost the consistency that its software once stood for. Delays and poor communication have frustrated users, especially when they expect timely improvements from a big brand like Samsung . As a result, user confidence in Samsung’s smartphones is greatly diminished and could affect the company’s future business.

Test the user's endurance

Samsung has proven itself to be one of the fastest OEMs in releasing major Android updates over the years. For example, One UI 6 was rolled out to the Galaxy S23 series on October 30, 2023, less than a month after Android 14 was released. Expectations were high for One UI 7 to follow a similar timeline. However, the beta, which was originally scheduled for October, has been delayed to December 5, 2024, nearly two months later than planned.

Samsung then released three additional beta updates for the Galaxy S24 series in December, January, and February. However, it wasn't until March 7, five months after Android 15 was released, that Samsung officially opened the One UI 7 beta to Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 users. Currently, the stable One UI 7 build is only available on the Galaxy S25 series and the latest A-series devices, while Galaxy S24 and older models still have no information on a specific update schedule.

To explain the delay, Sally Hyesoon Jeong, Samsung’s executive vice president and head of R&D, said the company had bigger ambitions for One UI 7. Jeong emphasized that Samsung was aiming for a “major breakthrough” with the update, a goal that required two to three years of planning before the project even began. However, this explanation wasn’t enough to appease users, especially without a clear rollout schedule.

A reputation of many years can be destroyed in an instant.

Samsung has built a reputation as one of the most reliable Android OEMs when it comes to updates. Its recent promise of seven years of software support for its flagship devices has put it ahead of many of its rivals. However, the delay in releasing One UI 7 could undermine user confidence. For many, fast and reliable software updates are a major reason to choose a Samsung device.

To regain user trust, Samsung needs to provide transparency and a clear timeline for the One UI 7 rollout. According to the report, the stable update for the Galaxy S24 series may not arrive until April or May 2025, seven months after the release of Android 15. There is also no word on when users of older devices like the Galaxy S23 and S22 will receive the update.
